Student government elections are right around the corner and students are getting ready to cast their votes. In the past, there has been a problem with getting students to vote for their student representatives. Corey Savage, chairman of the student elections committee, feels that the main reason for low voter turnout is lack of publicity. “A lot of students simply don’t know about the election until after it’s all over,” said Savage. “We need to continue to get the word out there and encourage students to vote because they are choosing leaders who will represent them in the upcoming year.” The committee is also continuing to post even more flyers about the upcoming election and encouraging all students to vote, in the hopes of combating low voter turnout. Savage is optimistic about the number of students who have signed up to run for office. “We have had a good number of applications turned in for different offices…I think that even more students are going to be involved in SGA in the upcoming year, and that’s definitely a good thing.” The deadline for submitting all application forms is Feb. 19. All applications should be turned into the Office of Student Activities by 5 p.m. and student elections will be held on March 22.
