“These haters can’t hold me back” was the hook on Rick Ross’, “Hold me Back” single that was featured on his fifth studio album “God Forgives, I Don’t”.
Ross, who truly believed his own hype, received an eye opener this past weekend as he was caught up in an alleged drive by shooting on the day of his birthday.
The Gangster Disciples have been labeled as the suspects of the shooting. William Leonard Roberts II, also known as “The Boss” or “Rozay,” showed fans around the world what it means to be an imposter.
Ross’ alias comes from American Gangster and infamous drug cartel leader “Freeway Rick Ross,” but Ross proved that if you perceive yourself to be “The Boss,” you better be able to back it up. Ross recently hired 24-hour security to protect him from gangs trying to harm him.
Rick Ross along with other rappers such as Jim Jones of Dipset and Philadelphia rapper Freeway have all taken the names of notable American Gangsters or violent individuals.
Ross, Jones, nor Freeway live the lives they preach. From fashion to lyrics, rappers often times portray a life that many of them know nothing about.
It is a complete tragedy. Rappers clearly try to be someone that they are not, and Rick Ross is a prime example. We all should have listened to 50 Cent when he told us this man was a complete fake.
A cop in hip hop? Not only did Rozay steal someone’s identity, but also he openly admitted to being a correctional officer before becoming a rapper.
Shockingly, the knowledge of a cop in a culture filled with violence, resistance, and rebellion against police force did not affect the opinions of hip-hop fans.
Nevertheless, Ross’ rap career continues to flourish as he releases hit after hit, and collects money from his label, MMG.
