    Aggies controlling the MEAC

The N.C. A&T men’s basketball team began their turnaround Jan. 20 as they went to the wire to beat Hampton University by a score of 82-80. With 4.9 seconds remaining, Hampton got one last shot but Marseilles Brown missed as time expired. Aggie point guard J.J. Miller led all scorerswith 30 points including 12 of 14 from the free throw line. The Pirates were led by Tarvis Williams, the MEAC’s leading scorer, as he contributed 28 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Two days later the Aggies handled another MEAC foe, the Norfolk State Spartans. The Aggies made a late run to down Norfolk State, in front of a raucous home crowd, by the score of 75-72. A second-half spurt by the aggies is what put them over the edge. The Aggies trailed most of the second half until they went on a run with less than 8 minutes remaining. A&T still struggled a bit offensively and struggled more visibly at the free throw line. A&T was led by the all-around play of junior forward Bruce Jenkins, who contributed 20 points and controlled the boards, especially in the second half, with 17 rebounds. The win puts A&T into second place with a record of 7-8 overall, 4-2 MEAC, while the loss sends Norfolk State in a bigger hole.
