R-E-S-P-E-C-T! One week at A&T and I have found out what it means to me! Respect is vital, and a lack of respect can hinder an individual’s success.
I am astounded to walk across campus and experience other students speak to me and gentlemen open doors for me. I have even witnessed men in an overfilled class give up their seats for a lady and stand for an entire hour and fifteen minutes.
What saddens me is that I have also seen students talking back to professors and as a result being thrown out of class. I am a freshman, but I have never in my life seen such inconsistencies. One could only think that a newfound respect and gratefulness would be portrayed to professors and other professionals.
Ladies and gentlemen, I ask you to simply grow up. In the eyes of the law we are all adults! Wake up and act like you have some sense. This is college, not high school. You should enjoy yourself, but not at the cost of disrespecting the adults around you. Think before you act and speak. Allow these professionals to assist you; it is their job.
Not everyone is fortunate enough to attend college. Take advantage of this opportunity.
