    Healthy aging tips for internal and external wellness

    (ARA) – It is important to realize that prioritizing your health is a commitment that should not be limited to specific times of the year.

    “Growing older is something to embrace,” says Dr. Jenny A. Van Amburgh, associate clinical professor of the Northeastern University/Bouve College of Health Sciences School of Pharmacy and consultant to the makers of MiraLAX. “People can age gracefully, but many seem to forget along the way that internal health is just as important as other aspects of health. And in fact, internal health can actually affect outward appearance.”

    Fortunately, says Van Amburgh, there are some easy tips that baby boomers can heed to help to ensure that every year is enjoyed to the fullest.

    Dig those sneakers out of the closet

    Besides the physical benefits that result after a consistent exercise regimen (everyone likes toned arms and calves), there are some other benefits to exercise. Physical activity actually stimulates endorphins in your brain, potentially leaving you feeling happier than before you hopped on that treadmill. Regular exercise can also help prevent high blood pressure. Simple lifestyle changes can make a big impact: Try choosing the stairs over the elevator or escalator next time, or purposely park farther away from the store for a few extra minutes of exercise.     Pamper yourself, it’s allowed (in fact, it’s recommended)

    Many people get stressed because they don’t leave enough room in hectic schedules for “me time.” It is important to remember, however, to put yourself on the top of your priority list. Spoil yourself once in a while, hit a salon or simply take a bubble bath once a week to unwind. Often, people who suffer from stress are not getting enough quality shuteye; ideally, everyone should strive for a good night’s sleep.

    Drink up

    Another simple way to keep your body in check is to make a conscious effort to eat a healthy diet and drink sufficient fluids. Dehydration can quickly disrupt your entire system and can cause fatigue and even headaches. Dehydration can also have a negative effect on your digestive system, possibly causing constipation which can lead to abdominal bloating and cramps. If you find yourself in this type of uncomfortable situation, Dr. Van Amburgh recommends trying MiraLAX laxative, which effectively relieves occasional constipation, but without harsh side effects.
