The volleyball team saw it’s first action of the year last Thursday in a scrimmage, losing to the alumni in two out of three sets. (30-24, 25-30, 25-18).
The alumni, including current head coach Toni Conway and assistant head coach Arlene Mitchell, scored the first point of the game and kept the Aggies on their toes throughout the match.
It was a game where the Aggies could see where they measured up against very good players and make the necessary adjustments.
“It was enjoyable to play with some of my old teammates and some of the volleyball alumni.” Conway said.
Besides competing, Conway and the coaches also focused on the team’s leadership.
“We have four [seniors], we were looking for them to step up and lead our other upperclassmen and lowerclassmen to a win today,” Mitchell said.
These leaders include outside hitters Janae Mitchell and Tiffany Mellette, middle hitter LaShawn White, and defensive specialist Stacey Malone.
The season will kick off this Friday in Williamsburg, VA against Maryland Eastern-Shore Saturday.
They compete in a tournament at William and Mary College.
