Located Downtown Greensboro, Tavo Restaurant & Tavern greets patrons with renaissance and French themed paintings, dim lights, and elegant fabric covering each booth.
Beyond the soothing atmosphere, Tavo serves food that is nothing short of perfection. The restaurant offers a combination of American and southern cuisine. Serving collard greens, buttermilk fried chicken, and homemade macaroni and cheese gives Tavo a “southern feel.” Other American cuisine such as their Ribeye, New York Strip and even the Prime Rib equally attract customers.
Each work of art is a 16th or 17th century Italian painting. As part of the original Kress building, every painting in the establishment is a part of the Samuel Kress collection. The central piece of artwork was said to have been Kress’s favorite piece of art. The picture can be found around the bar in the restaurant, on the takeout menus and the website.
With such wonderful talk about this establishment, I decided to visit during its lunch hour. Of course reasonable prices are a top priority for any college student. Not only was the food fairly priced but it was absolutely delicious. The fried buttermilk chicken plate included two sides and their mouth-watering cornbread. It was more than enough for a lunch portion. They have everything ranging from salads, seafood, chicken, and pork to vegetarian dishes.
The staff was by far the friendliest I have encountered. They made me feel as though I was the only customer and they had time to listen to whatever I had to say. Even before leaving, the manager wanted to confirm that everything met my expectations. That showed me how concerned they are about their customers.
Tavo’s hours of operation vary, but the website lists anything needed including menu, pricing, hours of operation, and location. I definitely recommend this restaurant for Valentine’s Day; it’s the perfect atmosphere for a romantic evening.
