Rooms in Aggie Suites E were damaged Wednesday due to the sprinkler system being engaged in one of the rooms on the third floor.
Water puddles were seen throughout the common area as well resident rooms in several different suites in this housing dormitory. Although the water was initiated from the third floor, rooms directly below also suffered from extensive water damage.
According to resident assistant Matthew Kirby, those students that were affected were immediately notified, and brought up to speed on the incident.
Due to excessive damage to rooms, 19 students were displaced, and had to move into other areas of residence. Most of them were able to stay in Suites E, however some had to move to another dorm.
“One of the very first things we do is try to access the damage,” said Leonard Jones, executive director of housing and residence life. “Our main job is to protect residents property, and that things are safe for them.”
For some of those who were affected, frustration ran rapid throughout their minds, for they wondered how things were going to be handled.
“Whatever is ruined, will be paid for,” said Chelsey Mann, junior social work major. Mann had bathroom furniture ruined caused by the incident.
