Maxie B’s is the prefect place to indulge in sweets. Established in 1985 as a yogurt shop, Maxie B’s has transformed itself into a dessert heaven.
As I enter into the shop, I am reminded of my favorite childhood game, “candy land”. An assortment of cakes, cookies and brownies teased my keen sense of smell. I decided to purchase the delectable strawberry butter cream cake with the award winning chocolate ice cream.
For less than $7 my taste buds took a ride through homemade delights.
The strawberry butter cream cake is enriched in flavor. Fresh strawberries are layered between white cake and rich butter cream frosting. After two bites, I took a scoop of the chocolate ice cream to wash down the buttery flavor given off by the cake.
The ice cream is chilled to perfection and the milk is cured at a local dairy farm. It’s no wonder why this ice cream is prized with ribbons.
Around the facility, I saw happy customers. Groups of families and working professionals were all filled with smiles while enjoying their homemade desserts.
It’s late on a Saturday evening for customers, but the shop couldn’t feel more like home. To my left, nestled in the corner, is a small fire place. The heat given off makes for a perfect atmosphere to relax on one of their two-tone green and white couches. Hardwood floors and fresh cut flowers added to the decadence. The candles completed the space by lighting up the room.
Maxie B’s is also welcoming to college students. Chalkboards are hung high on the wall to list menu items.
Unlike the classroom, students won’t fall asleep while reading the menu to satisfy their sweet tooth. The best thing of all is that the prices are reasonable. A 9-inch whole round cake sells for approximately $34. This cake feeds 12 to 16 people. Cupcakes are priced at $18 per dozen. All of these items may be custom ordered or pre-made. For custom orders, Shannon Barbee, an employee of Maxie B’s, asks for “a four day notice to have items ready on time for that special occasion”.
Additional information about Maxie B’s is visible at their website, www.maxieb.com. Their guests will find a complete bakery and yogurt menu. Dessert lovers can stop by and enjoy an endless array of sweets at their 2403 Battleground location.
