Aggies gathered on the north steps of the Memorial Student Union Saturday afternoon for an Obama rally featuring Kevin Liles, hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons and Jay-Z.
SGA president Marcus Bass began the rally with chants of “Aggie Pride” and “Obama 08”. Fans awaited the main speaker of the rally yelling “Hova.” Syene Jasmin, a field organizer for the Obama campaign introduced Jay-Z.
“This is probably the most important election you’ll see in your lifetime,” said Jay-Z. “We are here as volunteers. I am here as a volunteer. And I am very inspired by those who have voted already. God bless Hip-hop and God bless America.” SGA president of Bennett College for Women brought out Kevin Liles.
“The thrill of victory is within our reach,” said Liles the executive vice president of Warner Music Group. “We are three days away from making history.”Senior Gary Brown an A&T field organizer of the Obama campaign introduced Russell Simmons.
“It was young people’s vision that changed the world,” said Simmons. “And it’s only the young people that give the next generation opportunity.”
Jay-z ended the rally with an “Aggie Pride” and encouraging all those who haven’t voted to march to Dudley and vote early.
