N.C. A&T’s new logo was unveiled to students, faculty and alumni on Oct.16 in a ceremony at Aggie Stadium.
A large crowd gathered in the stadium to show support for A&T and the new design. Most participants were dressed in new logo merchandise.
The event brought out many who openly expressed their feelings about the historic change, including 1947 graduate and retired instructor Annie B. Herbin.
Herbin said she’s excited about the change.
“Change is good,” she said. “I feel wonderful about the new logo and that the new generation of Aggies getting to be affiliated with something like this. The new dog looks mean and aggressive. I like it.”
Herbin was not the only one who felt good about the look of the new Aggie dog.
The new logo features the head of the A&T’s Aggie Mascot with a spiked chain and the words N.C. A&T Aggies going around it.
A&T graduate Ger’aldine Cheston Sims, a 1955 graduate, is pleased with the new look of the university’s logo.
Sims said the change is an exciting and historic moment for A&T as a whole. She also said she hopes that the new change will contribute to the win of several football games.
Though most faces seemed to be pleased with the change some people had mixed feelings.
Senior Public Relations major Charlene Day said, “The new logo will definitely have to grow on me, but it’s a great concept.”
Heburn “Bud” Meadows and his wife Frances Meadows, both alums of A&T, said they did not feel very confident about the change.
“We feel as though things should stay the same. We liked the old symbol the way it was, but as long as the young people like it we guess that it is ok,” Heburn Meadows said.
Miss A&T, Jocelyn Jacobs said the change is exciting and monumental.
“I feel that the change is an exciting and well deserved change for the university,” said Jacobs, a senior business management major.
Student Government Association President and senior public relations major, Terrance Jenkins felt the same.
“I was a part of the committee that worked for the past few months on the logo and I am excited about the new logo,” he said.
“Today’s events are great. A&T has been fighting for this and it is a good way to kick off Homecoming,” said junior accounting major, Devon Rodriguez.
Opinions weren’t the only way Aggies expressed their appreciation for the new logo. Students from Coutour productions showed their excitement by modeling the new clothing merchandise that was being sold at a booth after the unveiling ceremony.
T-shirts, sweat shirts, jogging sets, capri pants, skirts and hats were among the merchandise modeled by Coutour.
A&T’sBlue and Gold Marching Machine, Golden Delight dancers and the A&T Cheerleaders kept the crowd hype as they led the them in singing the A&T Spirit Song.
