Destiny’s Child’s new album, “Destiny Fulfilled,” will be released on Nov. 15 instead of Nov. 16. This urgency was caused by the vast customer demand, internet leaks, and counterfeit CD’s.
These problems are causing customers to have incomplete versions of the album. To please consumers, Columbia/Sony Urban Music and Destiny’s Child will release the album earlier than the music industry’s normal Tuesday release.
Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams display their vocals and harmonies on this new album. This album is said to be the group’s most personal and hands-on since Beyoncé was the key producer and the songs were co-written by all three members.
Destiny’s Child was able to gain support for the album from Mario Winans, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, and other famous producers. The CD features 11 tracks and two of their singles can be heard via radio or website.
In 1990, Destiny’s Child was formed in Houston. At this time, the group only consisted of Beyoncé Knowles and La Tavia Roberson, both 9 years old. The name of the group originated from a passage in the Book of Isaiah in the Bible.
In 1992, Kelendria “Kelly” Rowland, Beyoncé’s cousin, joined the group. With this addition, Destiny’s Child was able to make an appearance on Star Search. The final member, LeToya Luckett, joined in 1993. The group performed in clubs all around Houston and later opened for acts such as Dru Hill and SWV. Finally, in 1997 Columbia offered them a recording contract.
Destiny’s Child’s debut was made on the “Men in Black” soundtrack with the song “Killing Time.” The self-entitled debut album was released in 1998. “No No No,” the lead single sold over a million copies and topped the music charts.
Their next album, “The Writing’s on the Wall,” entered the charts at number six. Its lead single, “Bills, Bills, Bills” was the group’s first number one pop hit. “Say My Name” made the group even more famous. This song maintained a number one spot on both the pop and R&B charts for three weeks.
Yet, during this time the group split up. Roberson and Luckett wanted to depart from the group due to feelings that Mathew Knowles, Destiny’s Child’s manager and Beyoncé’s father, was keeping a share of the group’s money and favoring Rowland and his daughter over them. Lawsuits were filed, but a settlement was later made.
Two new group members, Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin, could be seen on the video premiere of “Say My Name.” Shortly after joining, Franklin broke from the group. Overall, “The Writings on the Wall” sold eight million copies.
The group, with the new and old members, has won 31 gold, platinum, and multi-platinum RIAA certifications since they debuted in 1997.
Despite this, the trio continued to prosper. “Independent Woman Pt. 1” became the theme song for “Charlie’s Angels” and stayed at number one for 11 weeks. The groups next hit single “Survivor,” debuted at number one, in 2001. Since then, Beyoncé has done a solo album and made appearances in several movies.
