By T.J. MooreNews EditorThe following description seems like a student’s dream: Apartment-style suites only a few minutes’ walking distance from most campus buildings, a complex with paid utilities with no hookup charges and academic year leases.Well, this is not a dream; this is very much the reality for the first students to dwell in the newly built Aggie Suites. This two-building 802-bed housing complex offers a four bedroom/two bathroom suite with a living area, or a two bed and one-and-a-half bathroom suite with shared double bedrooms. Both suite styles also have full cable TV along with a speedy Internet hookup. The fact that the sites have these options of housing is a plus to its tenants. “I enjoy living in the suites because of the privacy,” said sophomore broadcast news major Danya Bacehus. “It’s not run like a dorm.”In the near future, the Aggie Suites will get many more features to make the facility more appealing. Basketball and tennis courts are already in the plans. The suites will also get an additional parking lot and a 3,500-square-foot fully equipped fitness center. According to David Hoard, vice chancellor for development and university relations, his vision of the suites is headed in the right direction. “We are about 90 percent of where we want to be concerning the facilities,” said Hoard.Even though the suites buildings are filled to capacity and seem to be helping with the housing situation for this year, the suites is not seen as the problem solver for housing space. “I think the suites was built for swing space to prepare for renovations and new residence hall construction,” he said. “As one building closes, you have to have somewhere to house these students.”For more information, log on to www.aggiesuites.com.
