Why UNC is better than Duke

“Keep calm, go to hell Duke. Keep calm, beat Carolina,” are examples of quotes, phrases, and photographs that flooded social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram yesterday before Duke-Carolina rivalry game.

Last night was an unfortunate loss for my Tar Heels. We lost momentum after the second half allowing Duke to win 73-68.

For as long as I can remember, Carolina and Duke Basketball fans have shown support, loyalty, and enthusiasm for their teams. Camping for weeks outside the sold-out arena with painted faces, these are the fans that fill our TV screens with Carolina and royal blue t-shirts.

Hands down, Carolina fans have a reason to boast and support their team. First, Hall of Famers Michael Jordan, James Worthy, Bob McAdoo, Billy Cunningham and Larry Brown attended the prestigious University of North Carolina. Carolina has a 5-4 advantage over Duke as far as NCAA Championships are concerned. The Tar Heels also lead the Blue Devils 25-24 in ACC Conference Championships. Let us not forget leading Duke in wins of all the games played against other college basketball teams. Need we say more?

The “Dookies” are not a bad team by any means, but as far as fans are concerned, they are not better than the “Heels.” Of course we want to give credit where it is due and acknowledge that Duke has had some good seasons and some great players.

Both teams play to win and both universities possess the potential to produce some great NBA basketball players. At the end of the day, no matter the ratio, Carolina and Duke is probably one of the biggest rivalries in the country and their fans will continue to show extreme support for them. Carolina baby!
