Why we’re watching this show: When the sixth season of ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” airs Thurs. Sept 24 viewers will tune in to find out the ending to the cliffhanger of season five.

The finale left fans on the edge waiting for what happened next, in an unexpected emotionally draining finale. Dr. Izzie Stevens, played by Katherine Heigl, just flat lined after undergoing surgery to remove her tumor and Dr. George O’Malley, played by T.R. Knight, just flat lined as well after being hit by a bus.

Although reports have said Knight will not be resuming his role, Heigl’s character still faces an unknown fate. During this season, writers and producers are not giving any hints as to what to expect, but many followers are hoping for a MerDer wedding, a resolution to Dr. Bailey’s marriage, and a continuation of the Christina/Owen relationship. Whatever will happen, this season must be infused with drama, as season five was filled with extreme highs and lows.

The season five finale alone forces ABC’s writers to step up to the plate and make the new season even more emotional, medical and surprising.
