On Sunday afternoon in Corbett Sports Center, the North Carolina A&T volleyball team loss 3-1 against South Carolina State (23-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-15).
After splitting the first two sets, the South Carolina State Bulldogs proved to be too much for A&T when they won the last two sets.
The Aggies were led by Janae Mitchell who recorded her seventh double-double of the season. Mitchell, a senior, recorded 11 digs and a career high 20 kills for A&T.
Junior Amber Inman added 41 assists and 10 digs for A&T while senior Tiffany Mellette added 18 digs.Although the Aggies won the first set, South Carolina did not go down without a fight.
The Aggies were down 22-21 when Bree Dotstry recorded a kill that tied the game for the Aggies.Â
The Bulldogs would regain the lead, but that would be the last point they scored.
Mitchell connected on two kills giving the Aggies a 24-23 advantage.
The Aggies won the set off an attack error by South Carolina State’s Jade Sanford.
The teams battled again in the second set.
Trailing the Bulldogs 21-19, Mitchell brought the Aggies back with two consecutive kills.
The Aggies connected on two more kills gaining a 23-22 advantage before falling to the Bulldogs 25-23.
Paige Webb led the Bulldogs with 17 digs and 11 kills while Lauren Harris added 18 digs.
Two days before the South Carolina State game, the Aggies played Norfolk State University at the Corbett Sports Center and loss the matchup 3-1 (25-9, 23-25, 25-18, 25-13).
Tiffany Mellette led the Aggies with 14 kills and eight digs while Junior Bridget McCaskill added six kills and 10 digs.
The Aggies won the second set of the match after a 16-point loss in the first set.
In the second set the Aggies came from behind 16-12 to tie the game at 21 on a Nicole Kessner kill.
The Spartans regained the lead until a service error tied the game.
After two kills by Mellette and an attack error by Elayne Greer of the Spartans, the Aggies won the set 25-23 tying the match at one game apiece.Â
Charlotte Armstead and Tracey Copley led the Spartans with 12 kills each. Armstead added five blocks in the Spartans victory.
