When craving something sweet, Greensboro may be just the place. Despite its somewhat small size, they are lucky enough to have several spots for its residents to enjoy delectable treats.
I have had the pleasure of sampling several desserts from Cheesecakes by Alex. This is located downtown, just minutes from North Carolina A&T’s campus. It is easily described as a small establishment amongst many decorated storefronts. The shop is unfortunately pretty easy to miss. More important than anything is what you’ll find inside. The small coffee shop replica has tables indoors and outdoors, for guests to sit and enjoy their delectable sweet treats, or a walk-up counter, where desserts can be taken to go.
The desserts at Cheesecakes by Alex are nothing short of amazing. They are known for their long list of cheesecake flavors, twenty to be exact. The exotic cheesecake flavors are definitely what keep the clientele returning and satisfied. There are not many places that offer sweet potato soufflé cheesecake, bananas foster cheesecake, or crème Brule cheesecake. From the menu, I ordered the Kahlua Espresso cheesecake and Sweet Potato Soufflé cheesecake. The Kahlua Espresso Cheesecake was a perfect combination of coffee flavor and chocolate. It was sweet enough, but not unbearably rich, like I have found several desserts to be. The cheesecake its self is Kahlua and espresso flavored. It is paired with an Oreo cookie crust and topped with a cinnamon dust. The Sweet Potato Soufflé cheesecake is my new favorite. It reminds me of candied yams which is normally made around the holidays. Who wouldn’t want to enjoy those flavors year round? The sweet potato flavored cheesecakes is paired with graham cracker crust, and topped with a crunchy walnut streusel. Both cheesecakes were amazing, and flavors I’ve never tried before. Aside from their specialty, they offer a variety of bakery items, from cupcakes and muffins to turnovers etc. They even offer delicious coffee, so you can get your caffeine fix.
Overall, Cheesecakes by Alex is a place you’ll want to visit. The cheesecake is to die for and awfully inexpensive, Chocolate Brownie Turtle and Sugar Free are $4.35, all other flavors $4.15. Small (5”) cheesecakes are $10, Medium (7”) is $16, and Large (9”) are $32. As mentioned before, they have a variety of bakery items. Breakfast muffins are $1.65, and dessert and premium muffins are $1.75. To order by the dozen, breakfast muffin will cost you $7.50 and dessert muffins will cost you $9.00. Cakes run about $5.00 per slice and $42.00 per cake. It’s conveniently located close to campus, what else could you ask for? For more information regarding this business you can visit their website at, www.cheesecakesbyalex.com or the physical location at 315 S Elm St Greensboro, NC 27401.
