Greensboro native Walter Latham has found success promoting such tours as “The Original Kings of Comedy” and “The Queens of Comedy.” Latham is the CEO of Latham Entertainment and has been deemed an entrepreneurial genius. He is bringing his latest production of “Latham Entertainment Presents…” to the Greensboro Coliseum on Feb. 14.
The host for this 2003 comedy show is J. Anthony Brown from the “Tom Joyner Morning Show.” Brown began his career as a comedian after being short $316 of tuition money. He has been in comedy for over 30 years and landed his first job in Hollywood as the head staff writer for the “Arsenio Hall Show.” He later wrote for “The Parent Hood” and “Me and the Boys.” He has warmed up audiences for television shows “Martin,” “Living Single,” “Sister Sister,” “Roc” and “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper.” Brown has done stand-up on “Vibe,” “Def Comedy Jam,” “It’s Showtime at the Apollo” and “Evening at the Improv.” His acting credits include “Living Single,” “Moesha,” “Sparks,” “The Parkers,” “How to be a Player” and “Drum Line.”
The lone lady on this tour is Sommore. Sommore headlined the Homecoming 2002 Comedy Show. She has become known as one of America’s top female comedians. Sommore is a former Richard Pryor Award Winner who has appeared on the “Oprah Winfrey Show” and is remembered as the first female host of BET’s “Comic View.” She has also hosted “Def Comedy Jam,” BET’s “Live From LA” and “It’s Showtime at the Apollo.” She became a part of the 2000 “Queens of Comedy” tour that set a Guinness Book World Record by becoming the first female comedian to perform for a crowd of 44,000 people. Sommore also had a recurring role on “The Hughleys” and made a special appearance on HBO’s “Snaps.”
One of the most popular comedians on this tour is D.L Hughley. Hughley can be seen on “The Original Kings of Comedy” and in his most recent film, “The Brothers,” in which he starred with Morris Chestnut and Shemar Moore.
Hughley began his career in small comedy clubs which landed him on “Def Comedy Jam.” Hughley is best remembered for being the joke-cracking host on BET’s first season of “Comic View.” He has also done comedy specials for HBO, most recently “D.L. Hughley: Going Home.” Hughley has also made appearances on the “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “Politically Incorrect” and “Live with Regis and Kelly.”
Earthquake is another outstanding performer who will be featured on this tour. Earthquake has been called one of the most talented comedians in the country. His side-splitting humor has crossed over into the mainstream comedy arena and has won spots on VH1’s “The List” and Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend.” He has also made appearances and toured with “Def Comedy Jam” and “Comic View.” Most recently, he toured with the play “Listen to your Woman.”
Bruce Bruce is no stranger to Greensboro either. He was the headliner for the Homecoming 2001 Comedy Show. Bruce can currently be seen as the host of BET’s “Comic View.” He was recently featured in Lion’s Gate Film’s, “The Wash” as a rent-a-cop. Bruce was also featured in Outkast’s “So Fresh, So Clean” video, Def Comedy Jam and various film festivals.
The final comedian featured on this show is none other than Rickey Smiley. Smiley was the host of the Homecoming 2002 Comedy Show. He was most recently seen in New Line Cinema’s “Friday After Next” with Ice Cube. He has hosted “Comic View” in the past as well. He boosted the show to it’s highest ratings in 10 years. He was also signed to be the host of BET’s “The Way We Do It,” that featured his characters Bernice, Coach McClainy and Lil’ Darryl. He has also released two comedy CD’s.
With a show full of headliners, this show is bound to have the audience in stitches. This show will be held on Friday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum.
