Aggies came out in multitudes to support the Couture Productions and Verge Modeling Troupe at this year’s Homecoming talent show held at the Carolina Theater on Wednesday, October 24, 2007. P. Diddy’s former assistant and fashion enthusiast, Fonsworth Bentley, hosted the esteemed event.
The energetic Mr. Bentley started off the show the help of his co-hosts a Verge and Couture alum.
“I’m here to help to upgrade your swagger!” Mr. Bentley said.
The energy was high as the show began as Couture took the stage first. Complete with a Circus theme the members of Couture amazed the crowd with its vibrant pink, blue, and red costumes and high stiletto heels as the models came out as acrobats as they danced and modeled their way across and down the stage.
No doubt this year Couture did not forget the sex appeal they are known for at home as they then represented the wild animals featured at the circus such as wild cats and lions. There was also Couture member Armon O’Neill modeling a sexy black costume dressed as the lion tamer.
Soon after the animals left the stage the freak show of the circus began. There was the bearded woman modeling a black and turquoise corset and a black mini skirt, the elephant woman with a unique gray costume, and the Siamese twins modeling one blue vest and a red vest however with matching outfits.
Then the dancers and the members of Couture spoken word brought the insane asylum to the Carolina stage. The dancers were the patients dressed in all white straight jackets came out dancing to the enthusiastic songs such as “Stronger” by artist Kanye West and “Clumsy” by singer Fergie. The Word members were integrated into the scenes throughout the show, this time playing the role of the doctors of the mental patients.
When Couture closed their show there was a segment done, modeling the Flamingo designs by Derek Turner and HtDogwtr (Hot Dog Water) fashions by Jeffrey Lee Sawyer. A new line called Parish, by the same company that created the Mecca line, as also presented with the help of the Verge and Couture models.
The Verge Modeling Troupe was then ready to take the stage. The theme they were using this year was the “The House of Verge” which was the diamond and jewelry store. The models walked with formal attire, the ladies in long white gowns and the men in black suits. Also the models were committed to the theme with jewelry in hand as an imitation large diamond hung from the ceiling.
The next scene was of the models dressed in all black as jewelry thieves coming in to steal the large diamond. Then the sirens rang and red lights flashed when the Verge models took the form of the SWAT team, also dressed in black to get to the bottom of the theft.
There were audience members that felt as though the theme throughout the Verge show was done well however, they were not convinced that the models did their best to put on an outstanding show.
“I feel as though Couture put on a better show.” Sophomore Biology major, Maya Davis said.
“Overall I enjoyed the fashion show but the Verge models could’ve done better because, I saw some mistakes.” Freshman Business Management major, Lynwood Dees said.
