Miss North Carolina A&T State University, Jasmine Boles is standing firm on her platform as she holds her first “Public Queen Announcement”.

Boles plays an active role here at the University, and she is a member of several organizations and honor societies. Some of these organizations are Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, Golden Key National honor Society, and National Society of Black Engineers, just to name a few. During her tenure here at A&T, Boles has also served as a senator for the College of Engineering.

On Friday, September 2nd Miss A&T’s Public Queen Announcement was held in the lobby of Williams Dining Hall. The event ran from 11am until 2pm.

It is the platform Boles used the spring while running for Miss A&T, and she plans to continue it throughout her reign. It is a platform that targets women’s empowerment, student outreach, and community outreach, which keeps everything grounded for the Senior Industrial and Systems Engineering student.

Students passing through the lobby of Williams Dining Hall stopped through and engaged in the program. Enthused to learn more about the program, many of the students stopped out of sheer curiosity.

Empathetic and energetic are two words that describe Boles perfectly. Always carrying a smile as well as keeping one ear open to listen to others, she understands how programs such as this can be helpful.

“It came from me being Miss A&T, and how throughout my reign I need encouragement because it can get tough.” Said Boles.

The event consisted of two tri-fold boards where students could leave uplifting messages as well as take one.

“Always, always STAY positive! Your light will shine bright from within!” and “Always be yourself!” were messages that were left on the board for students here at the University.

On the other tri-fold board, which was for Erwin Montessori Elementary school here in Greensboro, students also left inspirational messages. Boles worked with kids at Erwin Montessori with the U.N.L.I.M.I.T.E.D Mentoring program for about three years now.

“They can use words of encouragement as well because they go through the same stuff we go through if not worse.”

With this particular program, Boles is scheduled to attend Erwin Montessori and present the P.Q.A. board to fourth and fifth grade girls. Each student will receive a motivational quote that was left on the board by students here at the University.

An interactive activity is also planned during the presentation that focuses on young girls becoming young women in society as well as phenomenal leaders in the community.

“The best reward from doing this program on campus was the student involvement. This event couldn’t have been a success without the help from my fellow Aggies who were willing to make a difference!” Boles said after the event.

A larger Public Queen Announcement program is being planned to take place in the spring semester.
