On October 13th the Apex Police Department charged 18-year- old Andrew Reddix, a
former student of North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, with
eight counts of exploitation of a minor and a count of exploitation.
Reddix compelled a 12-year- old Virginia girl to send him nude photos of herself
using an app entitled, “Musical.ly.” The parents of the girl reported the issue to the
Police in Salem, VA in July. Reddix was staying on campus in Greensboro at the time
of the incident.
According to the search warrant, Reddix posed as a 12-year- old bi-sexual girl named
“Hannah,” on the app. However, he also had an account of his own. The 12 year-old
from Virginia communicated with Reddix via FaceTime, not knowing he had been
blackmailing her the entire time.
Her parents told the police Reddix contacted teammates from her basketball team
saying he was her “best friend and needed to get in contact with her.”
The Salem police figured out it was Reddix through photo identification and an IP
address located in the Apex area. They determined the girl sent a total of 60 images.
When shown a photograph of Reddix, she recognized him as “Andrew.”
Reddix was a freshman Chemical Engineering student. He has been placed on
interim suspension from the university and is no longer a student. He was released on a $1,000 bond Wednesday evening.
