Education Career Fair

Each year here at NC A&T, there is a spring career fair particularly for education majors and the whole department of Arts and Sciences. Education is so important for the next generation to learn and grow.

“We are looking for young, innovative, creative thinkers that are ready to come in and change the lives of young people,” said Shannon Clemmons, assistant principle of Hickory High School. “I’ve seen some wonderful candidates here. Very polished students, I’m pleased with the turn out with it being my first time.”

There were over schools 46 school systems who came from all over the east coast; even someone from Gwinnett County, a suburb of Atlanta, GA.

“We have 132 schools in our system, so we’re really looking for everything,” said Dr. Vince Botta, recruiter. “We hired at about 1,000 teachers last year, mostly recent graduates.”

Although many students may not have known about this spring career fair, the Office of Career Services posts all the dates on their website. There is also a publication along with the large fall career fair.

“We mainly got the word out through professors and the College of Arts and Sciences students e-mails,” said Cynthia Downing, Associate Director for Career Development Programs. “Over 100 students have stopped by. I think this career fair has gone well.”

There were a great number of schools from North Carolina that were present.

“It was easy to talk to the recruiters because they were to enthusiastic about talking to us,” said senior Briana Cook, Elementary Education major from Louisburg, NC. “One county wants to offer me a job today.”

The career fair made students eager for the opportunities they would have upon graduation.
