UPD Investigates Weekend Assault

The University Police Department is investigating a sexual assault that took place Sunday.

An Aggie Alert was sent to students at 5:14 a.m. Sunday announcing a sexual assault in Aggie Suites E. The Aggie Alert described the suspect as a “black male, with dark skin, about 6 feet tall, muscular build, with a tattoo on his left shoulder, wearing gray sweat pants and a striped sleeveless shirt.”

University Relations released a statement Tuesday saying that a person of interest has been identified, however no arrest has been made.

In response to Sunday’s assault, a mandatory floor meeting was held on all floors of both Aggie Suites E and F to reiterate safety policies and crime prevention on campus and in the residence halls.

The University Police Department’s annual security and fire safety report of 2014, encourages students to notify authorities immediately after incidents of sexual assault, and to take physical notes of the incident once the victim is in a sound state of mind. Victims of rape and sexual assault should visit a medical facility immediately so that the authorities may receive al necessary evidence to detain the assailant.

As the investigation is ongoing, the information to the incident will remain limited and off public record. Both UPD and residence staff in Aggie Suites E declined to comment on the case.
