Robbery Turned Wrong

On Tuesday afternoon, in downtown Greensboro, a police officer was involved in a shooting at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr Drive, and Gorrell Street.

Around 2:45p.m. authorities were alerted of a robbery near downtown. At 4:30 p.m., the shooting began which resulted in the primary suspect succumbing to injuries by the officer. The suspect was then transported to Moses Cone Hospital, and is in critical condition.

Allegedly the suspect was breaking into homes before the shooting near downtown. The State Bureau of Investigation was brought in to facilitate the investigation due to an officer shooting.

Authorities closed Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, between Gorrell Street and East Bragg Street. In addition to Gate City Boulevard was closed between South Elm Street and South Morrow Boulevard.
