Diggy makes ‘Unexpected Arrival’

The young heartthrob rapper made an appearance at N. C. A&T as part of his promo tour for his debut album, “Unexpected Arrival,” set to drop on Mar. 20.

Security was in full force last week holding back hundreds of screaming fans — both young and old from the toppling Diggy Simmons. The young heartthrob rapper made an appearance at N. C. A&T as part of his promo tour for his debut album, “Unexpected Arrival,” set to drop on Mar. 20.

WNAA 90.1 FM, WNAA Street Team and I Am Music and Media teamed up to bring the rapper to the university for an ‘Eat, Tweet and Greet’ on Mar. 14 in Williams Dining Hall.

With Williams Dining Hall employees and university police trying to keep students from blocking the cafeteria exit, it was a hassle but the event was successful overall.

“It was so crowded in the café, but it was cool bringing Diggy to A&T,” said Jasmine Scott, a freshman agricultural education major from Madison, N.C. “It was a lot of fun but I think big time artists should come at either an earlier or later time because it is was so many people in the café around 1 o’clock.”

After Diggy took many photos and hung out with students, he went to the WNAA 90.1FM radio station for more interviews with other press. Checkout the what the young rapper had to say:

Q: First time at A&T? What was your feeling and vibe from the café during the Eat, Tweet and Greet?

A: It is my first time here at A&T. That was great. It was definitely all love with everyone taking pictures. It was great.

Q: At what age did you realize that rapping was your passion?

A: 14 was when I realize and that is when I was writing at the time and I did not want to be known for it but then it got to the point where I love it so much, so why not making it what I do.

Q: What are you doing to make yourself not be known as Rev Run’s son but as Diggy Simmons?

A: That was something that I wanted to do and what I was always really adamant about because I went into it by myself. I did not want my dad to get me a deal or anything. I just worked really hard doing mixtapes and freestyles and I did not mention his name because it is pointless. I am Diggy and he is who he is.

Q: What motivates you to keep rapping and making music?

A: Just Life. What ever inspires me and I just love creating music and that is a way I express myself and I just feel good about it when I makes songs and the people that support me; they motivate me and they keep me pushing all the time.
