Do Yourself a Good Deed and see “Good Deeds”

“Good Deeds” is the best Tyler Perry movie yet. The movie opened at number two at the box office last weekend. I give the movie an A+ for a great cast, relateablility, and an awesome storyline. If I could describe this movie in one word it would be inspiring! This film is very different from other Tyler Perry movies because it seems to be more marketable to all races. It shows african americans in a positive light and has a majority african american cast without being labeled a “black film.”

In the very beginning it gives off the “pursuit of happyness” type storyline, but as the story unfolds it is very different. The film does a great job of telling the stories of  two people on opposite sides of the  social spectrum. Thandie Newton plays Lindsey, the struggling single mom, while Tyler Perry, Wesley Deeds, plays the CEO of the building she cleans. There are some tear jerking moments, laugh out loud moments and even moments when you feel compelled to yell at the screen, mostly at the stubborn and bratty brother Walter which is played by Brian White.  The still beautiful Phylicia Rashad, is also a key piece of the great cast, as she plays the mother of Wesley and Walter with fierce attitude and wit.

Although some of Tyler Perry’s mannerisms still give you the “Madea” vibe, Tyler Perry gave an awesome performance as the star of the movie. Perry is no sex symbol and his chemistry with Gabrielle Union, who plays Wesley’s fiancé, seems a little forced and awkward  but other than that Perry surprisingly did well playing a more masculine character.  Tyler’s acting in previous movies were

This film takes you on  a roller coaster ride from beginning to end with the fights, intimate scenes, and humorous dialogue between characters.  The acts of kindness from Wesley Deeds throughout the whole movie are very inspirational and touching. Wesley’s rebellious attitude toward the end of the film sent the message that everyone deserves to be happy and live their own life. Also the perseverance and courage Lindsey posses even after her set backs and struggles is refreshing and uplifting.  The main reason I gave the movie an A+ was because of how beautifully the ending was orchestrated.  All of the characters learned positive lessons and made a change in their lives.

This film is a “must see” film because it is truly a “feel good movie.”  Tyler Perry did an awesome job with creating a movie that is timeless and what most would consider a breath of fresh air from all the violent, poor storyline , graphic filled movies that
