Thirteen followers turned into 922 followers in two weeks for one Greensboro business.
Cream, Sip and Scoop is Greensboro’s newest Black woman owned ice cream shop that specializes in bold presentation and boozy add-ons.
The ice cream shop is run by Asmyne Brooks, an N.C A&T alum who got her start in the dessert business with her home based bakery eight years ago. Following a lay-off during Covid, Brooks jumpstarted her food truck called “The Sweet Spot”.
Brooks was inspired by a specialty sweets menu at a restaurant in Florida she discovered two years ago. The menu featured fun drinks, ice cream and an option for adult alcoholic drinks.
“Greensboro didn’t have a place where you can get ice cream/desserts and kids can come while adults have adult time” said Brooks.
Food content is one of the internet’s biggest crazes. It spans anywhere from loaded mukbangs, to strict food reviews and aesthetic food ASMRs.
Brooks is a fan of mukbangs. “I was telling my friend, ill look at something on the internet and it makes me wish I could drive there and get the same thing”
Brooks testimony and many others speaks to the powerful influence of food content. For cream sip and scoop, food content reviews gave them a competitive edge and eager new customers.
Cream, Sip and Scoop brought in local food critics such as The Golding family, Shelby Thomas, Yelpnctriad, Greensboroeatss and more!
“It was a big difference seeing content creators come in, originally I was worried nobody was going to come in, but I needed to figure out how to get the word out without doing it on my own” exclaimed Brooks.
Food reviews also go hand in hand with presentation; which Cream, Sip and Scoop know all too well.
In the digital age, food lovers may gravitate to certain foods solely because of its aesthetic appeal. Brooks and her team have perfected this craft with intentional presentation that catches the eye.
“Outside of scooping ice cream you have to make sure you have paid attention to detail. Even if it’s just telling my team; I don’t like the way you did that, I point it out. Sometimes people want stuff solely on the way it looks passionately” said Brooks.
Cream, Sip and Scoop demonstrates the power of social media in helping new businesses get their feet off the ground.
Consistency coupled with passion is exemplified through Brooks social media efforts and success.
