Superstar Divas

Superstar+Divas

In recent years, professional athletes have been demanding more money from their franchises.

When athletes feel their abilities are superior to other players in their leagues they feel entitled to be paid more. When denied higher salaries players often express their dismay to the media.

Most of the time they don’t show up for practice and or purposely don’t play in games at all. Hence the name “Superstar Divas.”

Over the course of this NFL offseason, several stars have decided they would not play or practice because they insist on being paid more.

One NFL superstar who is currently sitting out is Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell. The Steelers have put what is called a franchise tag on Bell, which is a one-year extension. This is the reason Bell is upset and refuses to play. He wants to be set on a long-term contract extension with more money added.

This season, Bell is set to make $14.5 million with $10 million guaranteed. With the season going into its fourth week, the Steelers and Bell have yet to reach an agreement.

Bell Maybe hurting himself by not playing, due to the other franchises with eyes on him, but he is well within his rights by doing so.

Yet, another “Superstar Diva” is a defensive end, for the Chicago Bears, Khalil Mack.

Mack had the same issue as Bell and felt he was worth more money than he had been offered. He did not show up for several training camps during the negotiation of his preferred contract. Unlike Bell, this was Mack’s only form of protesting to get a new contract.

In the end, the Chicago Bears managed to snatch Khalil Mack from the Oakland Raiders and signed him to a six-year $141 million dollar contract, making him the highest paid defensive player in the League’s history.

In a sense, Mack becoming a “Superstar Diva” worked in his favor. To say the least, not so much for Le’Veon Bell.
