As fall quickly approaches, Aggies need new activities to enjoy the season as the days become shorter and the weather cooler.
One option is a movie night at Lebauer Park in downtown Greensboro.
On Sept.14, Lebauer Park hosted an outside viewing of “Air Bud” as part of its Fall Classic Film Series.
The park was filled with families, couples, and even some N.C. A&T staff members.
“I think it’s a great opportunity to be downtown and have a lot of diverse experiences,” said Khristine Ngeve, an academic advisor and part-time instructor at A&T. “It’s always great when you can come together as a community and enjoy something like this.”
Lebauer Park will be home to many more movies this fall. They’re provided by A/perture Cinema, a Winston-Salem-based movie theater, sponsored by the Greensboro Swarm basketball team.
“Jurassic Park” will play on Sept. 28, “The Haunted Mansion” on Oct. 5, and “Space Jam” on Nov. 2. Each showing is free and available to the public.
These movies, as the name of the series suggests, are classic fall-themed movies or showcase basketball.
A/perture Cinema’s Event and Program Manager, Jake Leystrom, is excited about Greensboro’s new fall tradition.
“We run the A/mobile series around Winston-Salem,” Leystrom said.“We’ve been doing this for the past few years since the pandemic started, and we wanted to reach out and find more places in the Triad area.”
The A/mobile series started in 2021 and provides outside movie services. It currently has three locations and 14 programs across the triad, including Lebauer Park.
“We got a recommendation from a former employee about this area, so we stopped by and saw this beautiful park,” Leystrom explained.“It looked like a great place for a screen. We’re super happy to be here in Greensboro, sharing our love for movies.”
For some, their love of the outdoors is what drew them to the event. Lebauer Park features many trees, two cafes, an outside amphitheater, a playground, and much more.
“The weather was nice. It’s nice to have something free to do,” said Imani Smith, a Greensboro local visiting the park with her boyfriend. “We like coming downtown and just enjoy being outside.”
