North Carolina A&T men’s basketball has brought in a mix of transfers, freshmen, and returning players who are ready to step up and make an impact. With some key players already standing out, A&T is ready to shake things up and make their mark in the CAA.
A&T has five players back from last year: Bryson Ogletree, Will Felton, Efstratios Kalliontzis, Jalal McKie, and Chanler Montgomery. The Aggies will be leaning on these experienced players.
Last season, the Aggies struggled to find their rhythm, but those returning are helping the newcomers get acclimated.
The Aggies have started 3–1 for the first time since the 2017-18 season, it already feels like this mix of old and new might be promising.
Freshman transfer Lewis Walker is making an impact on both ends of the floor averaging 20.3 points a game and leading the team in rebounds with 6.3 a game.
After the teams win against Morgan State Coach Ross stated in his postgame interview how impressed he was with Walker after he came up big for the Aggies in a close win.
“You can’t tell me that he is a freshman.”
Although this is his first season playing college ball, he spent last year at the University of Massachusetts Amherst redshirting and using that time to develop his skills. Now he is proving why A&T made the right decision by bringing him on board.
Beside him is Lureon Walker, a transfer from the university of Mount Olive. Lueron leads the team in scoring with 23 points a game, is shooting over 50% from the field and knocks down timely threes making him a reliable offensive weapon.
Last season, the Aggies went just 7–25, and things got even more chaotic with the NCAA gambling incident that led to multiple players being removed from the team. This left the program with no clear direction.
Head Coach Monté Ross has rebuilt the team successfully though. The team is playing with more energy, more confidence, and a fresh identity that’s starting to move the program forward.
The Aggies will be back in action on November 28th when they head to Davidson College for a game at 4 p.m.
